Yul Tomatala / Recursive Places

Yul Tomatala (*1993, Geneva) explores notions of representation,
constructed realities and memory, both collective and personal.
Imbued by architecture and pushed to its limits, his practice oscillates
between image and sculpture. His installations, question a modernity
marked by blurry and entropic outlines, that define in-betweens. In
this approach, the rereading and manipulation of narratives and real
places take the form of parallel truths.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in photography from the École
cantonale d’art de Lausanne in 2019 and a Master’s degree in Visual
Art from HEAD Geneva in 2023. His work has recently been shown at
Festival Les Urbaines, Lausanne, Live In Your Head, Geneva, as well
as at Hasch and Bureaupolis, Marseille. He currently lives and works
in Geneva.
