Organized by Rufus Tureen
October 11 – November 10 , 2024
Opening Reception: Friday, October 11, 6 – 8pm
In 1994, Andrea Blum exhibited 4 sculptures at Galerie des Archives/Paris, Lumen Travo Gallery/Amsterdam, and Storefront for Art and Architecture/New York under the rubric Domestic Arrangement. When the sculptures moved to the next location, those that were not being shown, were replaced by a photographic substitute. 30 years later, 4 of those photographs and 1 sculpture will be shown at Essex Flowers in the exhibition, MANILA. They are the precursors to the works currently on view in Blum’s exhibition, BIOTA, at the 205 Hudson Street Gallery of Hunter College through October 26th.
Andrea Blum has been engaged with the dialogue between Art and Architecture since the 1970’s. She has built projects in Europe and the US that include urban space, exhibition design, libraries, domestic space, and furniture, and has been exhibited at multiple exhibition venues including, the 51st Venice Biennale (IT), the Henry Moore Institute (UK), the Mudam Musuem (LX), Stroom Center for Art Architecture (NL), and La Conservera Centro D’Arte Contemporaneo (SP). Blum has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, Graham Foundation
