Paky Vlassopoulou / If Future a Dead Loss
March 18–April 15, 2017
Werft 5 – Raum für Kunst
Bayenstraße 28, 50678 Köln

 In this new
body of work Vlassopoulou
questions cultural history’s
impact on the way we perceive the qualities of time in our daily life, and how
this shapes our imagination of the past, the present, and the future. When our
experience of time is dictated by neoliberal commands and instant
communications occurring at any given moment, the artist is left to ponder how
to grasp the present.
Is there any time left to envision the future? Is the future
a dead loss?
 If Future a Dead
Loss
is not an exhibition
about sci-fi scenarios, melontology, or futuristic post-internet aesthetics. On
the contrary, the exhibition explores the idea of the future not as a turning
point of evolution but as an
empty
space ready to be inhabited. Using images, material objects and
physical experiences, the artist occupies the space in order to create a present
moment full of doubts
and unmet expectations.
During the opening night three performers where serving
drinks to the guests. In a certain moment, even if they were still taking
orders for the drinks, they would never deliver them.
