Jannis Marwitz at Sundy / London

Jannis Marwitz / Slug’s arrest

December 7 – 2 February, 2020

Sundy
43 Wooler Street
London SE17 2ED

Sundy is thrilled to show new paintings and drawings by German artist Jannis Marwitz.

Marwitz’ works are densely populated by mythological creatures, droll characters and  everyday objects. Some of these characters and objects keep reappearing in and outside of works,  interconnecting different levels of narration with each other, like trap doors from fantasy into reality or the other way around. What is represented seems as absurd as it is concrete, often absurd in its concreteness and sometimes beautiful in its banality – weaving together strands of narration which make for infinite different versions of the human comedy.

Most recent solo exhibitions include: Narch till June /Närz bis April, Kunstverein Dortmund, Germany; Bonaventura Jannis Marwitzle, Damien & the Love Guru, Brussels; Like unhappy fruit, Lucas Hirsch, Düsseldorf; D.E.L.F, Vienna.
Selected group exhibitions include: Guten Morgen Europa!, Tale Of A Tub, Rotterdam; Don Quixote, Galerie Barbara Weiss, Berlin; Augury, BQ, Berlin; Aby Warburg Mnemosyne Bildatlas, ZKM, Karlsruhe.
