Fueled by the success of its past three events at this very special venue, the art salon Bienvenue returns to the heart of Saint-Germain-Des-Prés, in the legendary Hôtel La Louisiane, from April 5th through 10th, 2022.
In this setting haunted by the memory of the fauna of artists, musicians and intellectuals who made their quarters there from the 1940s, Bienvenue is a promise of encounters between collectors, gallery owners, creators and curious onlookers, without forgetting the residents of the hotel — the latter which remains open during the fair. In the intimacy of a hotel room and in the maze of corridors, Bienvenue is carried by a spirit of hospitality, the same one in which La Louisiane, under the vision of its owner, Xavier Blanchot, is entrenched.
It’s in this magic atmosphere that a score of art galleries, invited by guest curators Domenico de Chirico and Marialuisa Pastò, will each occupy a mythical room.

The Hotel La Louisiane; a unique place in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés
It is in a setting of all the chaos, freedoms, foolish and yet precious chatter that the Hôtel La Louisiane has built its identity; at 60 rue de Seine in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, since Rimbaud and Verlaine, artists, creators and travelers in search of surprises have settled for a short stay or a long residence. Let’s mention the names, they are collective references: Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Juliette Gréco, Lucian Freud, Albertine Sarrazin, Syd Barret, Keith Haring, Quentin Tarantino, Etienne Daho and other contemporaries, to whom L’Hôtel La Louisiane owes its discretion, have lived there. For each of them, it has been the refuge of a flight, of a “beginning”, the one “before” the successes, the lights, the red carpets, the fans. It is significant because those who remain alive feel the need and the desire to return, almost as a pilgrimage.
Today, the management of the Louisiana Art Fair and its artist friends, event organizers and curators are determined to keep the place alive in its present life so that this history of freedom and decompartmentalization will continue; it is in this spirit of conquest and Epicure that the “Bienvenue Art Fair” is taking up residence in La Louisiane at the beginning of the summer.

An unusual exhibition space
The ideas, fantasies and desires of the artists will take shape in the hotel’s rooms and public areas over the next few days. This year, the organizers wished to pay tribute to one of the great residents of Louisiana, Albert Cossery, who lived there from 1946 until his death in 2008, specifying in their application that a curatorial proposal based on the work of this writer of Egyptian origin would be appreciated.
The gallery owners and artists were selected for their talent and their ability to dust off all the sclerotic nostalgia, in order to make the art vibrate but also the sparkling memory of the walls of the rooms of the Hôtel La Louisiane.
