As an invisible life force, bridging the tangible and intangible, Pneuma is an animating force, a breath of life which connects physical existence to spiritual awareness. Universally, Pneuma underscores humanity’s quest to understand life’s essence.

With these mosaics I further explore my interest in visualisation of the intangible and unphotographable aspects of reality such as memories, emotions, visions and hallucinations. As well as the relationship between digital images and mosaics. Guided by the concept of Pneuma, I bring abstract mental images to life – first conceiving them as digital drawings, then translating them into mosaics.

I approach mosaic as an ancient form of image-making, a counterpart to digital imagery. Unlike ephemeral nature of immaterial pixels, mosaics have a physical quality and posses remarkable permanence. Despite their evident differences, they do share something in common – material of glass. But while the screens are devices which temporarily render immaterial images visible, mosaics are solid embodiments of colour and shape.

This work is a continuation of my study into the core elements of color, shape, material and light. And how abstraction, as the most primal form of communication, can act as a portal into the unconscious mind.
