Dedicated to the relationship between art and spiritual exploration in esoteric movements: theosophy, anthroposophy, and archeosophy, the exhibition is a very personal project in which history is intertwined with Mikołaj Sobczak’s own experience. In addition to newly created works, the artist is showing for the first time several works from his private collection created by members of the Polish Theosophical Society and related to anthroposophy.
Excerpt from the text by PhD Karolina Maria Kotkowska:»[…] The project grows out of the artist’s lifelong fascination with the occult, tracing how spiritual ideas have resonated through history and shaped his own personal journey.
The exhibition unfolds in three parts: a presentation of a private collection of artworks and publications associated with the Theosophical Society and Anthroposophy; a monumental painting inspired by the history of these movements and Helena Blavatsky’s book “Isis Unveiled” — an introduction into the Theatre of Mysteries; and a series of autobiographical paintings reflecting the artist’s experiences as a member of an Archeosophical group.
Sobczak’s exhibition serves as a meditation on the role of esoteric movements in times of political and social radicalization – both past and present – and on the enduring significance of the great spiritual mysteries on the enduring power of spiritual knowledge to envision transformations of consciousness and structures of power.
