Dry Pastures explores the diminishing resilience of soils as a symbol of ecological fragility and planetary exhaustion. The ceramic works register a state of overuse: decomposing textures, desiccated crusts, erosive scars, and scorched root systems. Developed through research and site-specific material sourcing from local excavation grounds, the exhibition addresses urgent environmental issues, foregrounding the harms of soil sealing, extraction, and pollution. A deliberate play of material illusion runs through the presentation: what appears to be pliant textile or antler-like structures is in fact clay, their contrasting surfaces and forms unified by firing and glazing. Bone‑ash glazes—historically used as fertilizer—link the sculptures to agricultural cycles and to human intervention in the soil’s natural state. Together, the works offer a tactile cross‑section of geological conditions, underscoring soil as a prerequisite for life while making its fragility tangible.
