Mockberries
Taking materials from the surroundings of Amstelpark, pigments drawn from rose petals and roots, hay from the petting farm, the small rituals found around a picnic blanket, this exhibition brings together works by five artist friends, staged against the backdrop of the park’s nature.
The root of a mockberry does not start with a single root, but with many. Thin stems move through the soil, finding openings, sending out shoots, disappearing, returning somewhere else. What appears above the surface a leaf, a flower, a fruit is only a temporary arrival.
The mockberry is one such arrival. It resembles a strawberry without becoming one. It invites recognition, then unsettles it.
